Masthead:

The title at the top of the page appears large and bold. This makes sure the reader knows that this is the contents page, and does not skip past it. The same 3D affect that is used for the masthead on the cover is used here. This shows a clear house style with the titles of the pages, and makes the magazine look formal and professional.

Underneath the masthead is a gutter, and this helps to split off the page, filling space and make it look more professional. This gutter goes behind the main image, and is sure not to take the spotlight away from the image. With the page graphics being spread out effectively to fill space, the magazine appears much more formal and professional, compared to a magazine with poor spacial awareness.
