Contents Page Analysis: Metal Hammer

In this edition of Metal Hammer, there are 2 main contents pages. On the first contents page, there is four articles being shown. The main article on this page is showcasing the band on the front of this magazine, KORN. This takes up ¾ of the page, and is the first thing you see when you turn onto this page. The image is a medium long shot of the band, showing their mystery. The band members are portrayed as powerful and domineering, as the picture is taken from below, and they are looking straight at the reader. The eye contact and the facial expressions portray them as powerful, and they look evil and controlling. The title of this article is “Life is Creepy” which shows the mystery and eeriness of the band. The font is also slightly eerie, with the scratched effect being used on the words.

On the second contents page, we can tell this is the main contents page for the magazine, as it shows the most information. On the left, there is the main contents for this magazine. It does not show everything that is in this magazine, which is unlike some contents pages. Instead, it shows the main articles involves in this edition. There are articles that have been left out of this, which may not be as important or popular as the articles shown. The contents shows the main house styles for the magazine, and the fonts that will be used. All of the main text is in the same font, with the titles of the pages being in the same font also. The colours are also shown throughout, with red and black being the main two colours here.

In the middle of the page, 3 more articles are shown, but these are shown in pictures. 2 of the pictures are action shots, and are taken from concerts rather than being a staged studio photo. The middle photo, of the band nightwish, is a staged studio photo. This shows the entire band, and makes the reader think about the way they are being portrayed.

On the right of the page, there is a large list for everyone that contributed to the magazine. This ranges from editors, to artists, to marketing and even the directors. This shows how large the magazine company is, and just how many people are involved in the production of the magazine.
